LCLocal Coordinators are contracted to work with Student Ambassador Exchange. LCs have an exciting, flexible role in the J-1 Visa Secondary Student Program because they get to manage their own schedule and set their own methods of recruitment for host families and schools. LCs must be able to provide for their own travel expenses and supply materials needed for the position. Typical duties of the LC position include:

  • Creating and maintaining school relationships, including securing permission to place students in accredited, local high schools
  • Recruit, screen, and manage host families
  • Match SAE students with appropriate host families and schools
  • Provide orientation at the beginning, middle, and end of programs services to host families and SAE students
  • Meet SAE students on arrival at the airport
  • Conduct required site visits to host family homes and schools
  • Maintain contact with students and host families at least once a month, with logs keps of all contact
  • Contact area schools twice a semester to evaluate student’s progress and grades
  • Serve as a liaison to problem-solve between students, host families, and schools
  • Complete all required evaluations
  • Review any misconduct and, if needed, move students to new families
  • Abide by all DOS, CSIET, and SAE regulations
  • Complete required annual background checks and DOS certification
